Sporting a New Look

I took Zoe Bug for her first eye exam a couple weeks ago and she ended up needing glasses. I was pretty surprised because I only took her for an exam because I was humoring her. And we have scads of medical flex money to use up from last year.

The little Drama Llama told me that her eyes hurt when she looked at the sun so I needed to take her to the eye doctor. It took every ounce of restraint I had to not reply "Well duh."

Since she has never had a standard eye exam, I decided that maybe it was a good idea to have her eyes checked. And can I tell you that I was secretly hoping that she did need glasses. And not just because we had the flex money that we had to use or lose, but because I thought she would look so cute in them.

I'm so shallow.

This is completely beside the point, but look, she's even starting to get some eyebrows to break up that forehead her Daddy gave her.

Her glasses seem to be sitting askew on her face, don't they? We had them adjusted to the millimeter, so I'm thinking this is a recent development. Maybe it's because they're being worn 24/7 because she loves them so much.  I don't know about you, but when I was a kid it wasn't cool to wear glasses. People called you mean things like "Four Eyes."

But then glasses back then were uglier than sin. Not anymore. Zoe picked her glasses out all by herself, which is amazing because of my control issues. Don't be proud of me or anything though, it's just because I happened to like the glasses she picked out and they really did look better on her face than any of the others she tried on.

She really only needs them for "concentrating work" so she is always concentrating now. What a nut.

I'm thrilled about these glasses too, because I think kids look dang cute in glasses. My sweet little Four Eyed Bug.

  1. She looks so cute in those glasses! The Midge also wears glasses, but the novelty has worn off so she only wears them when she "has to" as opposed to 24/7.

  3. My younger son had to get glasses when he was four.....he had the cutest little red glasses. I just loved them. Then he outgrew the need for them. she looks adorable....I can understand why she'd wear them all the time. Sadly, I didn't need glasses until I turned ahem, the year after 39.....but now I need them all the time. I wish I didn't but I'm sure glad she loves hers!!!

  4. She DOES look cute in glasses! I know it's just a matter of time with my boys. My side of the family has major eye issues. I had my glasses by age 10 and I was one of the older ones.

  6. She is so cute! You are way ahead of me on this. I was devastated when my youngest needed glasses. It was proof that I made something imperfect....just kidding...I hated that they hid her pretty face. Everyone started saying "Cute glasses" not "Cute girl". I hated it. Still do.

  7. She looks darling. I am legally blind and my glasses always looked like coke bottle bottom glasses. I'm pretty sure they couldn't make them thick enough anymore. I stick with contacts so I am sure to be safe on the road and anywhere else there is something I might run into like a wall. I'm glad she loves them. I would love them too if I looked that cute!

  9. She looks adorable in her glasses. I had to get them when I was in the 3rd grade and I HATED them! They have come a long way since then. I'm glad she likes them cause that makes it much easier for her to wear them.

  10. She is so cute! My son got glasses last year. Much like you, I humored him by taking him to the eye doctor. I was shocked when he needed them. He is cute in them. He wears them to bed! I can't get him to take them off!
