The Parent Tax and Sugar Coma

Man, am I glad that Halloween is over. I love Halloween, believe me, I do, but would you look at all this candy.

Peanut Head and I feel it is our duty to tax our children on their Halloween candy. Really, any candy that they bring into the house.

We don't want any surprises when they start working and Uncle Sam takes a bite out of their pay check, so we take our cut right off the top. The Reese's Peanut Butter Cups get culled out first thing. You don't want to waste that kind of decadence on a kid. We're just preparing them early.

They get to keep the nasty, non-chocolate stuff. The Air Heads, Sweet Tarts, lollipops, and that sort of thing. Too much chocolate isn't good for kids anyway.

Not that we need it. Would you look at what it's done to Peanut Head?

The sugar sent him right over the edge.

I had to talk him down. Right now he's in bed, in a sugar coma.

The girls helped me with carving the pumpkins today.

I know, I know, I procrastinated until the last minute and I should have done it earlier this week, but we finished just in time before they had to run and put their costumes on for trick-or-treating.

Not that they were much help anyway. I don't know where these two OCD freaks came from, but they wouldn't even touch the pumpkin pulp.  Their job, their only job, was to separate the seeds out so that we could roast them.

You should have heard the squealing and squawking.  "Ooh, ick. I'm not going to touch that, Mama. I want some gloves. I am so NOT going to touch that."

I ask you this, what kid this age does not like to get slimy and dirty? Seriously.

My kids are freaks.

Just like me.

I'm so proud.

So this is the net result from two pumpkins. Pretty sad, huh?

It's a good thing they're cute.

Thing 1 really got into character, and I must say, it's a miracle because the whole scarecrow costume thing was not a hit in her world.

PUH-leez don't let one more person tell her what a cute pumpkin or orange witch she is.

I was already in the dog house because I wouldn't let her be Two-Song-Singing Hannah Montana, and then people had to go and not realize that she was a scarecrow.

She was not very gracious about it either, and she started scowling and glaring at people. There were some crocodile tears too.

And they messed up her make-up. Oh, the trouble this cute little costume has caused me.

At this moment, she's okay with the costume though. And Thing 2 is in the background saying "What is wrong with you? You are such a dork."

"Yeah, I am. I am, I am, I am."

"What-EVAH. You are not standing next to me, girlfriend. Stay out of my pict-cha."

Even with all the drama, they melt my heart.

  1. They looked GREAT...cute, cute costumes!!! Your stories with them are just so hilarious! Oh and I am always excited to see what candy I can snatch from Lexi's bucket. Lexi is not fond of getting dirty, yucky, etc. but she LOVES ripping the guts out of the pumpkins...go figure!

  3. Oh my gosh!! They are so cute!! I wish I had a girl. Really. My cowboy would never let me do that...pick out his costume, etc.

And no, he won't even touch the pumpkin pulp, either. Our pumpkin didn't even get carved. Sad. I know. He didn't mind, though. Phew. Just not feelin' the pumpkin.

I'm sure it is because I missed the airing of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

  8. How could anyone not know she was an Orange Scarecrow?

As far as the parent tax, in our house daddy let the kids have a bag of pretzels each (yes the little 4 pretzel snack bag). I snuck off to work with a sack of candy. I only ate candy for 2 nights straight... YUM!
