School Daze

Here are the girlies on their first day of school. A week ago.

School started for the girls and I a week ago today, and let me tell you, life is cuh-RAZY right now. I can hardly believe I've gone for more than a week without touching my blog, let alone had any time to read other people's blogs.

We are very much in survival mode right now. I started the school year completely overwhelmed by the multitude of textbooks and the accompanying paraphernalia that they seem to come with these days. By Tuesday I was on information overload and experienced a series of little mini meltdowns, all at home thankfully.

I'm not a big whiner, generally, but when Peanut Head came home Tuesday and asked me how my day was, I couldn't get an intelligible word out. I responded "I . . . I . . . I . . . iiiiiittttt's just so HAAAAARD! Whaaa!"

And yes, it was all accompanied by the Ugly Cry. The one where my lips curl up into my nostrils and I can't get them back down to cover my teeth properly. And of course this flattering display is always accompanied by much sputtering and snorting, and just a little bit of snot.

Sorry.

But I got through it after the attractive venting session with Peanut Head and the good cleansing and snort filled cry in the shower. And things are getting better every day.

My sixth graders are great too. They're an amazing bunch of kids and very well-behaved. I have their fifth grade teachers to thank for that, I'm sure.

We are still very busy, and as predicted I need to beef up our supply of under drawers for these lean laundry days.

But we are alive and well, and I don't want you to think that we dropped off the planet or anything like that. I may be popping in and out of here less often and more sporadically, but I will be continuing with the blog, so just keep me in your feed reader and I'll show up now and then. I read each and every one of your comments. Thank you for taking the time to leave them, they brighten my day.

I'll be around . . .

  2. Your students are lucky to have such a creative teacher! I have a room of 19 1st graders, so I understand about having to let the blog go. It will be there when I get to it.

  10. I have missed you so much! I know it's only been 11 days, but that is just too long.

I am glad your first week went well, and all your kids (classroom & biological) are adjusting. ( I would include your hubby, but he might take it the wrong way & get mad).

In other words, you have been missed!!!!!

  11. I'm glad you're adjusting and that you were able to get all of the frustration out...snot and all. Sometimes you just gotta let go! It'll get easier as the days continue. Good thing you have a great group of 6th graders.

  12. In through the nose and out through the mouth : ) Breathe deeply. You'll be fine and next year another teacher will be singing your praises.

    Take care,

  14. Thanks for the update. I was wondering how you were surviving. I only have the one who started kindergarten and I still don't know how i'm managing. (her broken leg does make it a lil difficult. at least i don't have to chase her around right now)I hope you get your groove soon and can enjoy this fun experience. Good luck.

  15. Your girls are just so cute!

I'm sure your world is crazy right now. Welcome to mine! It's been like this since I had my first child. Clothes not folded, cereal bowls left in the sink all day, toys in the floor... ahhh a working mom's day is never ending!

  16. Congrats on surviving! If you ever have any library questions, let me know... I'm a Library Tech who works in Electronic Resources, and while I work for a University, I'm sure I can answer most of the grade six type resources questions you might have!

Good luck and have fun at school!!!!

  19. Oh how I have missed you. Funny how we get so used to things(your blog) and then when it's gone missing, it seems to unreal. I've been checking back each day in hopes of knowing that you ARE still out there. The girls looked darling on their first day and it will get better, as the days pass and things fall into place. Hang in there and it's ok to cry every once in a while!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Elisa

  22. Glad you're back -- however briefly. I was beginning to worry that those 6th graders had gotten the best of you.

And how come you didn't post a picture of yourself on your first day of school?

I know, I know. Too busy...

  23. CUH-RAZY is my NEW license plate on my mommy mobile!!! It fits me well! :) However, I can not begin to imagine...you...my idol...having a meltdown! you are THE most organized and crafty mother of the year! Thanks for all the great ideas!!! MUAH!

  24. Good luck on this new journey. I am a former teacher who is starting to consider going back but wonder how I would juggle it all. One thing that may help you out is freezer meals. I like the cookbook Fix, Freeze, Feast. You could cook one of the meals on a weekend night and have one serving for dinner and have between 4-8 meals for the freezer. It helps me a ton and I don't even work out of the home!! Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures.

  25. I hope it gets a little bit easier as the year goes on! Your girls look adorable in their back to school dresses!

And so glad to hear I am not the only ugly crier. It's bad isn't it?

  27. I only just found your blog last week or so, and I was wondering how hard the first week of school would hit. I find that I am having a hard time this year, after 13 Septembers teaching fourth grade, because my kids are both in school now. I am not doing well with all four of us, (my husband teaches too) going back to school. Just hang in there until October. It'll be all routine by then!
I love your blog SO much. Thanks for keeping it!

  28. I was just thinking about you... I started this week...I hope you are able to start making sense of all the "stuff"! hang in there!

  29. I've only just found your fun blog and it is very enjoyable. As our family deals with a health issue overload...you brightened up my day! Thanks....Shawna

  31. It has been a while since I have been blogging and loved catching up!! Stop by and catch up with me....Kathy

  32. I am also juggling with the beginning of the year chaos as well. I haven't had much time to blog or read blogs either (or the energy to do so!) You are not alone.

It does get easier, at least I keep telling myself that! ;0)

    Take care! Blessings, LIsa

  33. I haven't been able to do anything with my blog since JUNE! AHHHHH. Lots of reasons. The month of July was spent working and preparing to leave work to stay at home with my Madi and watch another little one. I blogged mostly at work because I had the time, but when you are preparing to leave its best everything be ready for someone else to take over. We spent a lot of time outside enjoying the weather- which I have tons o pictures... but so many in fact that my computer is out of memory to hold them. Back to School for us was the middle of August. My last day at "work" was the 31st of July. Since then entertaining 2 toddlers (sometimes 4 when a friend needs some help) leaves little time for blogging. By nights end I'm ready for bed myself. Back to School was rough on old mom here b/c my babies hit Middle School. The big 6th grade! I had intentions of asking you how the teacher testing went and then viola! a blog post popped up about your Back to School for YOU! So while I haven't abandoned my blog, I haven't had the time to contribute or the photo masterpieces to add :) Glad you are doing well, your clipboard is more handy than ever!!!!!
