Grudgingly Decrapifying

Not to be a buzz kill, but do you realize that summer is more than half gone? It is, and I'm a little bit starting to FREAK OUT, I have so much to do. My to do list is ginormously long, and there is no way I will get done what I want to get done before school starts.

I know. Boo hoo.

Anyway, one of the things that I have to get done this week is to clear out our guest room. With a backhoe.

Perhaps you have a similar room in your house? In our house, it's the guest room. We haven't had any visitors in over a year, so it's particularly bad right now. We've been tossing miscellaneous junk in, then super fast, closing the door and forgetting about it. You know the kind of stuff I'm talking about. Stuff we should get rid of, but we don't want to actually make the mentally exhausting decision to just get rid of it already.

So that's what I've been doing today. Decrapifying the guest room. I hate it.

It's not all crap though. There's lots of good stuff in there too. Like one of these Mini Everyday Displays. It's the cutest thing. It's a little frame with a cloth covered magnetic background.

This is one that I have on display in my house. These things are super easy to use. I could have made this waaaaaaaay cuter, but I was in a hurry and I just wanted to bang it out. All I did for mine, was to cut some scrapbook paper to size and use the cute little magnets that come with it to stick it all on.

Is that a cute little magnet, or what? I didn't use any adhesive at all, everything in my display is being held on with the magnets.

And these dang cute little clothespins.

I absolutely love this thing. You can hang it up with the attached strap and a dang cute little knob screw thing that comes with it, or stand it up on a table with the easel back.

I found one of these things buried in my guest room today, unopened, and it's just screaming for me to give it a loving and appreciative home. So what do you say? Do you want it?

Leave me a comment by midnight Friday, and I'll pick a lucky winner this weekend. I would love to hear about the trouble spot in your house that you need to decrapify. Spill.

Good luck Peeps!

  2. those frames are stinkin' cute! our trouble spot is our den, which is really a converted garage that we wish was converted back to a garage! our door opens into this room and we drop everything there! it's always a wreck!!!

  3. Cute frame! I seriously need to decrapify our office/computer room. We just throw stuff in there until one of us breaks our neck trying to get something out of the closet.

  4. I just went through our attic and storage building. Serious stuff! So we had a yard sale, started raining in the middle of it and ended up with 2 vans full of stuff for Goodwill. Does this count as decrapifying?

  5. My guestroom is a mess too! We do the same thing, put things there and forget about them.

  6. what a cute frame. I have the basement of shame and everyday I tell my kids that on a really hot day we will stay inside and clean the basement. Hasn't happened yet!!

  7. That is a darling frame! Great idea.

    I love your term "decrapifying"
    Awesome.

My area of decrampification is my garage. I would love to have the $$$ to have the shelves and neat spaces that I want.

Good luck in the room. Hopefully you won't find a bag of old groceries in there that should have been in the fridge.

  8. My problem spot is always my dresser top. I use it as a catch all. My "mommy binder" in there and then I have all the things I want to read or decide on later. Your giveaway will help me decrapify and keep it that way so that I can admire how cute the frame is. Hope you conqured your guest room and your are rid of your stress.

  9. I have a whole basement that's full of crap. As soon as school starts back up, I'm taking a back hoe to it...

  10. My unfinished basement is full of everything I don't want to deal with right now. I am almost motivated enough to go down there and do something about it. Maybe tommorow.

  11. Sadly, during the summer the room that is most neglected is MY CRAFT ROOM! I know sad huh? I am out number 7 to 1 and they all have a MILLION things that they need me to FIX or GET RID of or be a STORAGE SHED for, so everything ends up on my craft table. When I finally get a chance to get in there it looks like a garbage dump with the broken toys, ripped clothes and otherwise unmentionable disasters that end up in there seeking my attention. Not only that all 7 of them know that I have a stash of treats FOR ME to munch on while enjoying MY room, and inevitably THE STASH will be non-existent when i finally return to my place of refuge. I would LOOOOOVE to have a darling frame to work on when I finally have a chance to dejunkify my room. Our school starts in 31 days...AND COUNTING. Bless you teachers!!!!

  13. I would love one of those frames. My whole house needs to be decluttered. We moved in two months ago and I still am not done unpacking. I have to get done before September when our baby is due. This is number 6. You'd think I would be on the ball but I'm exausted and low on iron. I WILL get it done.

  14. That is so cool. I was thinking the whole time while I was reading, "I hope she'll tell us where she got that. I NEED one!!!" Let's see....there a spot in the kitchen that needs decrapified. There's a spot in my bedroom that needs decrapified. The kid's bedrooms need decrapified. And the WHOLE basement needs decrapified, so we can finish it. I don't think I'll get done before school starts, either.

  15. My husband and I live in a two-bedroom with our two kids. So, our nasty area is the attic. EVERYTHING ends up there and it becomes an absolute nightmare. Most of the stuff that gets shoved up there should just be thrown out. Sigh. Ick.

  16. Sign me up! My trouble area is an unused bedroom. I guess you could call it a guest room but I would be a horrible hostess to stick someone I loved in the middle of camping gear, boxes of scrapbooking paraphernalia, and canned food storage. Without a bed.

You've given me a great idea to get rid of my excess--have a giveaway! You rock!

  17. Soooo Cute!! Gotta have it!! I need to decrapify my bedroom. EVERYTHING gets stuck there!!

  18. My "junk spot" is our guest bedroom CLOSET. Its a walk-in closet and everything, I mean ER'THING, gets tossed in there. Its sad when we start looking for something we can't find we immediately go to this closet. I definitely need to clean it out.

But yes, I would love to have one of those frames! And I promise NOT to put it in the dreaded CLOSET! HA!

    Thanks,

  20. Ew, I have a guest room that has a "slash craft room" attached to it - we actually lost our last guest in my fabric stash. Tragic. But that cute display will look amazing over my hoard! :)

  25. I would love that frame!!! We are "decrapifying" because we are moving into a bigger house...so I can get more crap I suppose. I also have a HUGE to do list but since I know I'll never get it all done...I try to at least scratch one thing off before adding two more. LOL

  27. We live in a 780 sq ft home with a crazy attached 'sun room' that we've turned into a shed. There are boxes shoved in there the contents of which we haven't seen since we moved in three years ago. Definitely past time to "decrapify" that precious square footage! Thanks for the giveaway! =)

  33. I have one of those rooms too. I usually have to frantically declutter the bed since thats where I throw all my crafts and shopping bags LOL.

A friend of mine has the small one and I love them. But they don't sell them anymore. Have fun decluttering. I am next.

  34. Our room(s) are the guest room and the garage. So to help in the situation of the guest room we decided to switch the bedrooms. In doing this the guest room now has the bigger closet in which I can deposit those items into the closet and close the door thus keeping the room clean. Warning: do not open closet door. Management is not responsible for what may happen.
We did finish the garage though by selling everything and letting others clean it out for us in their mad rush to buy our junk.
However I am beginning to think your idea of a backhoe is much more useful. Have a great day!

  37. Well, I'd say the garage, or more specifically, my husbands boxes o' crap. After years of nagging, he finally started to just go thru some just this weekend, we are re-living the 80's. He found a receipt from May 1985( 2x1) from a deli- hey my turkey sandwich was $1.45! He swears that he needs to keep this paper, because I kissed him that day- I of course have no recall- he needs a place for his special receipts - this magnetic memory box would be perfect!

  38. I am coveting that frame!

My space that needs to be decrapified...the "command center"! I have an L shaped bar in my kitchen that seperates the kitchen from the living room. I keep my laptop on the small section of the L. That is also where I keep a few pens, scissors, the camera, mail that needs attention, papers from school that need to be filed, coupons that need to be clipped, magazines that need to be read, recipes I want to try, papers and receipts that need to be files...you get the idea?!? Its a large pile of crap-ola that seems to take on a life of its own! It grows faster than the weeds in my garden! I can't keep up with it!

  39. I discovered water in my basement yesterday and it very neatly pointed out to me that my storage area? Needs another dose of decrapification. I cannot get into the closet at all. And it took me a solid 10 minutes of wrestling stuff to other locations to clear the wet area so the carpet could dry. NOT a good way to spend the afternoon/evening before you leave town. Trust me on this one. :)

  40. My closet is in desperate need of decrapified. And one of those frames would look just great in my home! Love your blog and your writing style!

    ReplyDelete
  41. The room I desperately need to decrapify is the storage/craft room. I totally put things in there and close the door. Out of sight, out of mind isn't always a good thing.

  42. I need to organize my computer, especially all the pictures on it into files. Then, there's my basement to decrapify.....and my brain. That could use a little help too.....throw out all the crappy guilt we women feel over all the things we feel we should be doing that never get done :)

I hope you'll tell us where you got the frame so if we don't win, we can find one. I love your blog and your personality, it's therapeutic to me. Have a great day!

  43. Well, I'm having trouble with my bed room cos,It's been awhile since I last decrapify it. and I wanted something new on it. I have no idea cos I'm freaking busy with my work.

  44. what a fun cute idea! You completely inspire me to be more organized...it's hard some times, but you make it fun!

  45. O-K I confess, it is our guest room, as well. My husband uses it as his closet - that takes 1/2 the room, plus the closet itself and the other 1/2??? You guessed it, my scrapbook stuff and anything that I don't know what to do with it at the moment company is coming.... Well our nephew has moved in for a short stay and well guess where all my scrapbook and undecideds are? In my living room. My goal for this weekend is to get through 4 boxes of "stuff aka crap". Anyone want to help?

    ReplyDelete
  46. My spot is unfortunatly my scrapbooking desk. It's right at the bottom of the stairs. It has a large top with plenty of room for stacking. Plus it has plenty of space under the front overhand to store things. Plus as an added bonus, it has all that leg room.... hidden storage just for me. I really don't need to sit at my desk at all.

What you may ask is on and under (don't even talk about the around part) my scrapbooking desk?

It is all my tools, ribbons, stickers, letters and of course most importantly my children's precious artwork. I do have boxes of school papers (even thought the recycle bin does eat a lot) that I cannot, I repeat, CANNOT possibly throw away.

So someday, I may find my desk and organize everything into it's own little space. Until then, look out below!

  48. Oooh! I have been wanting one of these for years! I have been decrapifying several rooms lately.
This week I did my closet and my girl's room. Now, I'm working on my landing/schoolroom area. I have piles of my girl's artwork, craft supplies, books, and miscelania to go through. . . ugh. :( Thanks for the fun giveaway! :)

  49. I can relate myself here. I have so many things I got rid off in the vacant room and still don't have decision if how I'm going to do to that junk items. I don't want to throw them, its like I want it as remembrance.
