So, I have some news.

You may have noticed that I haven't been blogging as much. Well . . .

I got a job.

Yep. I'm going to be teaching sixth grade again, but this time at an elementary school instead of a middle school. Yes, an Elementary school so I'm preeeeetty sure the Potty Prancers will not be appropriate. Not that they ever were, but I think you know what I mean. In fact, I broke down and made some respectable potty bathroom passes instead. I'll try to remember to get pictures of those tomorrow to share with you.

Life is going to be changing around here. The girls are going to have more responsibilities than ever, and I'm going to relax my housekeeping standards. Seriously, a lot of relaxing and letting things go is going to be happening.

I've always admired working mothers and wondered how they did it all. For me, I know the answer is going to be that I can't do it all, but instead I will do what I can, crappily well and make sure that what I choose to do is important to me.  And I'm going to go and buy a lot more underwear for those lean laundry days.

Not only that, but certain things around here are going to be streamlined. The girls and I had a hair appointment the other day. I got some highlights, or a weave, or whatever it is that girlie girls call this . . .

And I love it. Funny story though, take a look at my Ginormic Head. My head really is not that big. In fact, I have kind of a pin head with a no-neck that looks a little small for my body. Or maybe my body is too big for it. I don't know.

Either way, my head is super-sized here because my hair lady, The Magician, teased it. I believe the term that she used is "back comb," but the result is the same. I ended up with this helmet of hair that I could not believe belonged to me. Seriously, it was immovable, sort of nest-like, and oddly perfect in shape. I could not stop touching it and looking at it. It defied gravity.

Hmmmm. Can I back comb my boobs?

So, I got my hair refreshed and the girlies got their heads shaved.

I'm a horrible mother and this is proof.

For all of our relatives that will be calling (Aunt Marcia), horrified, to demand of me "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THEIR GOLDEN LOCKS?!!!" I'm going to have to just stop and have a moment of silence and gratitude for Caller ID.

I had to get the girls' hair cut short because I will not have the time to mess with it in the mornings. And I know this sounds like an excuse, and maybe it is, but you know about Zoe Bug's little issue. The issue which still has not been resolved even though I was hopeful that the silky pillow case would be the magic bullet. I won't post that picture again because it's responsible for ruining several computer monitors, and for that I apologize. Really, I do.

So I got the girls excited about (I bribed them with ginormous lollipops) getting short (boy) haircuts, all for my own selfish needs.

I've been telling them for weeks that we were going super short with their hair so that they could learn how to comb their own hair. While it was short. And easy. And it was going to be motivation for them to take care of their own hair. So that when they could prove to me that they were ready for long hair by taking care of it themselves, well then they could have long hair.

Yeah. I'm sooooooo smart.

And I know that you know how this is going to turn out, but I'm going to say it anyway.

It backfired.

It backfired BIG.

They love their new hair. They especially love the bangs and to torture me they insist that their bangs be spread out just so on their foreheads in Frankenstein fashion, mocking me. Mocking me. Mocking me.

And I ask you, who won this round?

  1. congrats on the job!

Just want to let you know that when I saw your smile in that photo it made me smile too!

    (I'm tired, I amuse easily)

oh no, about the short hair. To this day I won't wear short hair because my mom made me cut it short when I was 9 or so.

so who did win that round?

  2. Congratulations! Your hair looks great. I love it. I have you in reader feed. So when you have the time to post I will be sure to see it.

    Good luck and again, congratulations.

  3. Congratulations on the job!!!! My youngest is not even 4 yet, so it will be a while for me before I can think about going back to work. I'm still homeschooling my 10-year-old as well and probably will do the same with our youngest. So, yeah, it will be quite a while for me...
I love the girls haircut!!! Very cute! I wish my girls would go for that... it would make my life a lot easier when they have a gymnastics meet and their hair has to be up and out of their faces and can't come apart even when they are tumbling all over the place...

  4. Congratulations on your new job. I hope it goes really well and that you can juggle it all successfully. Your hair looks great and your girls still look adorable.
Are you excited about having your own class again?

  5. Congratulations on your new job! I can't wait to see all the fun things you do for your classroom. How exciting to get back to work and with such cute hair too!

  6. Congratulations! It should be an exciting adventure.

I love all the haircuts! You look stunning and the girls look like little pixies. Love it!

  7. Sending you some virtual meals to help things adjust smoothly to your new'll be so organized we will abhor it! ;)
    And the haircuts, ADORABLE!!!

I thought I should just point out though that those lollipops make your girls eyes look a little funny.

  8. Congrats on the job! Those kids don't know it yet, but they have THEE most creative teacher ;)

And PLEASE let me know the MINUTE you figure out how to backcomb your boobs---I sooooo need that technique!!

  9. I LOVE your hair!!! It is really cute! Also, the girls look quite sassy with their new do's!!

Congratulations on your 6th grade teaching job! I know those kiddos are going to learn a lot!!! I think you would be THE best teacher!!

  10. I was wondering if you were going back to work this year or not. I'm so happy for you.

Also I LOVE the girls hair. My youngest daughter like's keeping her hair short but my oldest daughter refuses. As a result I spend a good chunk of every morning trying to fix it to her satisfaction LOL.

  11. Congrats on the new job---that banner rocks by the way!!

I think it's a win-win on the haircuts, everybody is happy!! I love your new cut, I would love to try something like that but am too chicken

  12. Tell me, did you make that adorable Welcome sign in your picture? It looks seriously like your handiwork, all cute and all. If not, where did you get it? I start teaching again on Monday and need something adorable.

Last year and the year before I taught 4th, then 5th grade, following one group of kids. I was hoping to teach them 6th grade this year, but no...I only get them for one hour. I have to teach Literature to 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders. I get to stay in one room (Yay!) but will miss having MY OWN class to brainwash. :)

So anyway, I am totally pumped that you're back teaching school because that means you'll probably be coming up with some cool school organizational tips for me. Your cute ideas are way cuter than my cute ideas.

LOVE the Potty Prancers. I have long looked for a way to keep students from "having" to go to the bathroom 5 minutes after they just got back from a 45 minute lunch break. Seriously, why should they have to use THEIR OWN LUNCH TIME to relieve their bladders?

I snuck a peak at Zoe's "issue" picture. I hope it will comfort you to know that when I was a girl, I had a friend who "rocked."
She did it well into her teens.Hmm. Maybe that's not such a comfort. Anyway, she's not the only one.

And when you learn how to backcomb the sistahs, I'm all about it.

    Cute haircuts all around ladies.

Good luck on going back to work. I know how hard it is so if you can only post once a day, we'll try to understand. :)

  13. Congrats on the new job! I'm sure your life will be changing alot. And your new hair looks great!

  14. Congrats on the new job, Jill! And on all the new 'dos. I love the short hair on the girls and the highlights on your hair!

BTW, if you want tips on how to relax your housekeeping standards, feel free to ask. I'm a pro at relaxed homekeeping...

  15. Congrats on the new job! I love your welcome banner...I should make myself one, but probably won't because school starts for me on MONDAY!

Love your hair...totally understand the short haircuts on the girls. Our dd starts PK and I'm wondering how I'm going to get all 3 of us out the door together, looking put together. It is causing me some anxiety. Thank goodness ds is pretty good about getting it together in the morning.

As for the housekeeping, my house stays much cleaner and neater when school starts. We're home less, so there is less time to make a mess. I feel like I clean ALL summer long, so going to work is a break since things stay cleaner longer.

Take care and have a great school year!

  16. Congrats on your new job!!

    Everyone's hair looks great!!

  17. Congrats on the new job! (I just took a full time job as well, so my limited blog time will be diminishing even more, too.) Love your new look (and for the record, your head looks very normal sized) and the girls, too! That was quite a great strategy...who knew they'd love it?! = )

P.S. I don't think backcombing works for anything other than hair...sorry 'bout that! LOL

  18. yay for you!!! Going back to work is exciting. I also (sort of) work at a "school" (honestly, some of these so called 18 year old adults at my University, I'm not sure if their Mom's know they are coming here, they HAVE to only be 12!!!! and they're drinking COFFEE! I feel the need to call their parents! and they don't wear mitts... tragedy, I tell you!)

anyway, I hope you really enjoy it. And the girls look just fine. lollipops and all. (and I thank God daily for call display!)

  19. congrats on the job! and I love your hair and the rugrats too!! all of you look fabulous :)

now I want one of those lollipops!!

  20. I tell you, I'm just finishing week two on this full time job gig, and it is TIRING!! I'm exhausted by 9:00 and I'm a night owl! Or should I say WAS a night owl. I have started walking in the mornings because I know I won't have the energy later, and since I'm not a morning person it actually helps wake me up.

Congrats on the new job, the new hair and the new, relaxed YOU! I'm sure you are going to come up with some "chore charts" and look forward to copying them in my amateurish way!

  21. I like your hair and the girls look so cute. That was certainly the secret to getting them to smile in a picture!

  22. Congrats on the new job!

You all look so refreshed and ready to go!

    I don't start back til the 31st...

My Lydia starts 6th grade on the Sept 8th! Can't wait to hear all about your year! Have fun!

  23. I am a short hair gal myself, I don't why people like to have long hair, it makes a huge mess, needs a lot of upkeep and it's always in the way. I really like your new cut, it's remarkably similar to mine, although I just got mine cut a little shorter. Good taste!
Oh, and the banner is AWESOME!

  24. Congrats on the new job and I love the hair color!

  25. Good luck and congrats on the job!

  26. Your hair looks awesome! And so do your girlies! Cute no matter how you cut their hairs.

I'm so excited for your job! You will be an amazing teacher (again!). And I say bring on the potty prancers. They are the big kids at the school, they need to be responsible to be good examples.

    Love and hugs!

  27. Congratulations on the new job! Wasn't expecting that one when I popped over this evening to check out your blog. Hope you have fun with it. I know you will do just fine juggling it all. After all, you are super woman don't ya know. ;)

  28. I lurve what you did with your hair, helmet and all!!! We just might have to get you a bumpit so you can do it yourself!

But WTH were you thinking doing that to the girls???? OMG! I am so disturbed by this that I might just have to boycott your blog for um at least a few hours!

Turning my back on this new chaos...

  29. Congrats on the new job that is awesome! I quit working in 2002 & I have found over the years that I got more done when I worked ~ Once I got a routine down.

On the hair, oh my. I wouldn't have the guts to do that to my girls. Glad they liked it though, I'd say you are both winners. They love there hair & you don't have to fight the hair :)

  30. I love the hair! Short hair is a must for working mom... in my opinion! That is why I keep getting mine cut shorter and shorter.

I wanna teach! I think I'm going to try to take some online classes until we can afford for me to go to school. Your sixth graders are gonna love you! You have such good ideas, so I know you will bring all that out in your teaching!

  31. YAY for you! Congrats on the new job :)

Your hair looks great, sexy mama!

I am dying from Zoe's picture again. I can't help but go look at that hair! They look good, I won't call you, so don't worry about ignoring my call on caller ID. :)

  32. just thought you'd want to know that I blogged about your banner making awesomeness!

  33. Congrats on the new job, and the new do too! You look great!
